MAH Amnesty Scheme - Reduction in stamp duty penalties!

The Government of Maharashtra, Revenue and Forests Department has published a recent order with respect to reduction in the penalty payable on the deficient portion of stamp duty on the instruments in Maharashtra (“Order”).

The key highlights of the Order are:

1)       A waiver of 90% of the penalty during the period 1st April 2022 to 31st July 2022 and 50% waiver of the penalty during the period 1st August 2022 to 30th November 2022 on the deficient portion of stamp duty payable on the instruments listed in Schedule - I of the Maharashtra Stamp Act.

2)       An application seeking such reduction is to be filed with the Collector of Stamps during the period 1st April 2022 to 30th November 2022. This Order is applicable only to pending cases as on 31st March 2022, in which at least one notice was served.

3)       In order to avail the benefit of reduction in penalty, stamp duty and penalty is to be paid by e-challan through online system on GRASS portal within the specified period.
